Auto accidents are the most common type of personal injury cases. Studies show that auto accident victims who get care soon after their injury have less chronic pain years later than those who delay treatment or especially those who receive no treatment at all.
Auto accidents, even relatively minor ones, can result in significant injuries that may sometimes take days or occasionally weeks to fully appear. Although many of those who are injured in an accident experience the pain immediately, commonly the stress and shock of the accident will block the pain until later that day or the next few days.
Whether the pain occurs immediately after the accident or days later, many people are often left unsure of knowing what to do. Auto accident victims will often go to the emergency room or their medical doctors for treatment.
The lag time between the accident and getting proper care through chiropractic treatment is critical. The sooner proper treatment begins, the better the potential outcome for the injury.
Chiropractic treatment consists of gently realigning the injured joints so that they can heal in an optimal position.
At Zollner Chiropractic we use a variety of extremely gentle techniques to realign and mobilize the injured joints. The first step is proper diagnosis. We will begin with an in-depth exam to determine all the injured areas. If needed, x-rays are taken in our clinic to assess the degree of misalignment. Then treatment can be customized to the injury to ensure optimal health and healing is achieved.
Legal Aspects of an Auto Accident
At Zollner Chiropractic we work with attorneys who represent you so you can receive the care you need as well as any compensation for time lost from work and for pain and suffering. We will document the extent of your injuries and write a final report for your attorney when you have finished treatment. We accept liens so that you do not have to worry about payment. You can concentrate on getting better again.
If you were at fault in the accident, we can bill through your auto insurance if you have medical payment coverage. Lastly, we have many patients who we see on a cash basis.
Typical Symptoms of an Auto Accident
The neck area is the most commonly injured area in an accident. This is commonly called whiplash. The weight of the head on top of the relatively delicate neck can negatively leverage the neck with the impact of an accident. Typically, whiplash symptoms involve:
- Headache
- Neck pain which may or may not include pain or tingling down one or both arms.
- Shoulder pain
- Shoulder blade pain
Although more supported than the neck, the low back carries the weight of the body. With the impact the low back can also be injured. This will typically show up as:
- Low back pain which may or may not include pain or tingling down one or both legs.
Commonly overlooked areas of injury include the elbows and wrists which can be injured while the victim is gripping the steering wheel or hips, knees and feet which can similarly be injured when the victim tries to press on the brake or brace against the floor of the car.
At Zollner Chiropractic, we specialize in treating the extremities. A detailed examination may well uncover any one of these issues:
- Elbow pain
- Wrist pain
- Hip pain
- Knee pain
- Ankle/foot pain
Occasionally the severity of the accident may result in a concussion. Symptoms of concussion include:
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Irritability
- Forgetfulness
- Difficulty concentrating
- Blurred vision
- Light sensitivity
- Ringing in the ears
In addition to providing the best care possible for your auto accident injury, we will also refer out for MRI studies or orthopedic care as needed.
